Jonathan Leakey Ltd. maintains and operates an organic aquaculture facility to breed and rear indigenous African Tilapia nilotica fingerlings and adult fish. The fish farm produces fingerlings to be used as breeding stock by other farms, kippers from adult fish, and cat food from fish remains for local supermarkets. Environmentally friendly and ecologically designed, our fish farm ensures that nothing goes to waste.
Tilapia feed on algae, so our closed water system provides the basis for their diet, further augmented by fresh vegetables, rice, and high protein fish food. With a stock of more than 10,000 fish, the company strengthens the global gene pool by providing fingerlings to fish farms around the world.
Adult fish are humanely processed and filleted. Fillets are brined, smoked, packed and delivered as Kampi ya Samaki Kippers to local supermarkets.
Fish remains from the adult fish are lightly cooked, ground and frozen, packaged for sale as cat food under the label of Pampered Pussy Cat Food for Fussy Felines.
